Google decides to kill the beloved Google Reader

by thedj on March 16, 2013

The internet is in an uproar after Google announced it will be shutting down it’s Google Reader on July, 1. This has caused me concern as I have tried many different readers but I always ended up back with Google Reader. My ideal reader is easily accessed by mobile and desktop, desktop being ideal for breaks during the work day or waiting for something to process or compile while working. So with that being said I asked my wifey to put a call out on her Twitter machine and see what people recommended. So far my list to checkout is as follows:

Newsblur – I’ve read that this is a good option with a  similar interface to Google Reader so I figured it would be worth checking out.

Feedly  – I know this is a popular choice, I’ve tried in the past and decided to revisit since I’ve heard they cloned the Google Reader API.

The Old Reader – I figured I’d have a look back at this one since it is based off of Google reader so it will be familiar but I think I want a new sleek design.

My new RSS reader should have the following: a mobile & desktop integration with a sleek easy to use interface and an easy save for later feature. If anyone out there has any recommendations please leave them in the comments.
